Business Events Committee 

The Business Events Committee (BEC) is dedicated to promoting the growth and development of the business community. It creates opportunities for learning and collaboration by hosting professional development presentations and supporting the advancement of emerging leaders in the region. The committee’s efforts focus on connecting the business community with resources, inspiration, and shared experiences to help businesses pursue their vision and thrive.
A key highlight for the Committee this year was the third Chamber Challenge, which featured young entrepreneurs from Southeastern Manitoba pitching their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges from both the business and public sectors. This event not only provided youth with a platform to showcase their creativity and ambition but also fostered collaboration and mentorship within the community. Generous sponsors awarded cash prizes to the top three finishers, inspiring participants to refine their ideas and pursue growth opportunities.

This year featured well-attended mixers hosted at Smitty’s Restaurant & Lounge, Birchwood Funeral Chapel Co-op, and Grandpa’s Cafe, providing excellent opportunities for members to network in welcoming and dynamic settings. The Chamber also organized an event with the Manitoba Women’s Enterprise Centre, including a luncheon for our non-profit members and a presentation by BDC’s Pierre Cléroux, who delivered a relevant economic outlook to assist members in navigating future trends.

These events collectively demonstrated the Chamber’s dedication to building community, honoring entrepreneurship, and equipping its members with the knowledge and connections necessary for success. The Business Excellence Awards are designed to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions within our business community. This year’s annual awards ceremony will take place at the Manitoba Heritage Village on November 12th. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Awards Nomination and Selection Committees for their engagement and enthusiasm.

Looking ahead, the Business Development Committee is excited about the prospects for 2027, emphasizing quality over quantity in events and maintaining a strong focus on engaging with our local business community.
